Common questions
Where is my data?
On your iPhone and, when iCloud is on, in your own private iCloud database. There is no account and I run no server, so I cannot see your data or restore it for you.
How does iCloud sync work?
Sync is automatic and is run by iOS, so there is no button for it. Open the Settings tab in the app and look under Data: it reads "Syncing with iCloud" when sync is on, and "iCloud off: data stays on this iPhone" when it is off.
A change can take from a few seconds to a few minutes to reach another iPhone. If the same habit was marked for the same day on two iPhones, the newer change wins. The theme, grid style, completion chime, day start and default reminder time are kept on each iPhone and do not sync.
How do I export my data?
Open Settings in the app and tap Export CSV under Data. Today writes three files, habits.csv, entries.csv and tasks.csv, and opens the iOS share sheet so you can save or send them.
Does Today back up my data?
Yes. Once a day it saves a backup file on your iPhone, and Back up now under Data in Settings makes one at once. The Backups screen lists them with their dates, and you can share or delete each one. The app cannot load a backup back in yet, so keep iCloud on if you want your data on a new iPhone.
Why does the AI screen say it cannot run?
Most of the AI tools use the language model built into iOS, which needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in iOS Settings. Streak at risk and Reminder timing work without it. Everything outside the AI screen is unaffected.
How do I link a habit to my steps?
Add or edit a habit, choose Health as its type and set a daily goal. iOS then asks whether Today may read your steps. The habit completes by itself when you reach the goal, so a hold does not complete it; you can still skip the day.
How do I add the widget?
Touch and hold an empty part of the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and pick Today. The small widget shows four of today's habits. Tapping a Check habit completes it or undoes it; other habits open in the app.
Can I undo a change?
Yes. After you complete or skip a habit, archive a habit, or complete or delete a task, an UNDO button shows for about 4 seconds. On the Grid, correct a day by tapping it again, or press and hold it for a menu with Done, Skip and Clear. A completed task can be unticked with its checkbox, and an archived habit can be restored from Archived habits in Settings.
Deleting a habit, a list or all completed tasks cannot be undone, so the app asks you to confirm first. Deleting a habit removes its history too.
When does Today ask to send notifications?
The first time you save a habit with a reminder, or give a task a date. It does not ask when you first open the app. If you declined and want reminders after all, open Settings in the app: under Notifications there is a button that opens iOS Settings, where you can allow them.
A task with a date and no time reminds you at the default reminder time, which you can change under Tasks in Settings.
